Would be nice to have a auto emailer to send pendings a standard help email. Then they could pay or you could easily find out if they need help instead of deleting them. They are potential money makers we are deleting.

Well theres not much pending people can do at that point... beyond "you need to wait XX hours before you may try again." But that screen will already tell them that.
Not sure if sending them a message would be prudent, as theres Lots of pendings for a variety of reasons. If they didn't complete the transaction, they need to wait for the status to clear and try again. They cannot just go pay, as there will be nothing for it to match up to.
The common reasons for pendings:
- Someone gets to paypal and for whatever reason closes the window or goes elsewhere during the transaction
- Sometimes, depending on how they are paying (certain credit cards) require them to verify information further (ie wait for their credit card or bank statment to come and verify transaction numbers on it) before they will be able to proceed with the transaction.
- Someone clicked in to view a subscription option and used their back button instead of the cancel button.
- They are pending between the point that they signup from your site and the time the ipn hits your site with confirmation of payment. Under normal circumstances this should only be a few minutes.
In those cases the instructions on that pending screen should be sufficient. I recommend setting pendings to be deleted after an hour. That's plenty of time to distinguis between someone who just looked at the screen and a real transaction, and if they need paypal verification etc... that'll usually take a couple of days anyway. But there's no way to continue a pending transaction.
If you're charging for access to something, they won't have access to anything in the pending state

yes they are pending for a reason and thanks for clarifing. Once I delete them I dont have a record of who showed interest in subscribing. Pending shows them on the screen as "potential money" to me. I have converted several potentials using other payment methods after sending a private message asking if I could help them resolve the issue and offered other payment form.
Just trying to close more transactions with a follow up message. Am I way off base on this one?

I see what you are saying. I thought you were saying that something should happen when they become pending... but everyone is pending at some point.
But I see what you're getting at. Would have to figure how to pull that off without notifying pending people before their status was automatically updated. Probably the best way would be through the delete process... let it notify them that enough time has passed that they can try again.... etc....
Have to see what justdave thinks about this one.

Perhaps they could moved from the delete pending queue to followup catagory queue... then allow the sorting of that queue to delete or saved(various followup stages possible.
thanks for listening

I'll look into setting up another table that mirror's the subscription table. The deletion's first step will be to move such entries to the archive table. The second step will be to remove entries from this table that are x number of days old.
This is doable and I'll put it on the list. Just not sure when this will be added.
