OK - we've tracked the slowness issues on the host.threadshosting.com server to an impending hardware issue.
Rather than planning any downtime for hardware replacement, in the next day or so, I'll be transfering all accounts on that server to a new box. Seems easier than having to schedule any downtime for repair. This should eliminate the slowdowns we've been experiencing from tim eto time with server load.
Currently that server runs RedHat 9, for which there will be no support from RedHat after April. The new box will be RedHat Enterprise Linux. This was a change I'd planned on making in the next few months anyway to move to thier Enterprise edition... I'm just accelerating the plans due to hardware slowdowns.
I apologize for the inconvience.
Hopefully my new server will be online and all setup later today. Then I'll contact each of you when I'm ready to move the site. Since it's a local move, it won't be anything that you'll really notice on your end. Most likely I'll just close the forum for a short bit while I copy it to the other server, and update the DNS on my end. No action should be necessary on your part, and other than a brief closure while I copy from one server to the other, no real downtime.
This should correct the issue and get everyone operating at fast speeds again.
I will update you here when I know more.

I have begun migrating a few of my accounts over to the new server (to test the waters) and should continue migrating through tomorrow.

Did you ever get all of the accounts switched over? Mine is still acting funky. Fast as lightning one minute and slow as hell the next.

Actually the new hardware had a bad harddrive out of the gate - good thing I noticed before everyone got moved over. That left a pretty bad taste in my mouth, so I decided to change vendors as reliability is very important to me.
The server load has been well within range on the server you are on though for the last week+. Let me look at your individual logs and see if I can see why you might be experiencing a slowdown.
We will be announcing a merger with VertexHost.com very soon. Part of this merger is going to include some very powerful new servers, an advanced on-site monitoring system (of not just the server but individual services - like MySQL), more support personnel, and an online support ticket and billing system.
So I decided to wait for that server instead, rather than move again in a few days or risk putting anyone on hardware which might be worse. . That server should be ready in the next day or so - and hopefully have everyone moved over by the weekend.
Stay tuned for a more detailed announcment about that in the next few days. I defainately want everyone to be 100% satisfied and reliability and speed are my number one concerns.

I have been following vertexhost on threadsdev lately. Are you sure this is a good move for reliablity. I like jeremy but it sure seems like a major streak of down time lately.

This will be all new equipment - with on site monitoring. So this will allow us to really "up" the hardware investment for maximum reliability and speed. So his problem hardware will be abandoned as well in move to all new and improved stuff. The onsite monitoring will really make a difference too. An on-site technician is alerted even for a problem with a service. (Like the server is up but MySQL has crashed).
I need reliability for my own sites as well, so it's top priority - hence the big move to be able to really step up service, support and reliability.
Things have been good on the problem server over the last week+. I've literally watched the server load every waking minute. Plus I'm regularly using sites on that server myself. Things have been good.
Jeremy's gotten overwhelmed lately as well... needed to upgrade hardware and needed someone with more time to help with maintenance and support.
So no fear, a way to expand/secure the hosting side of my business has been in the works for a while now, get more backend infastructure and support mechinism in place. Jeremy has needed to do the same.

Are we looking at down time during the vendor switch? So I can alert the troops.

No shouldn't be any downtime.
I'll warn you before the switch just in case, but you shouldn't notice on your end (except that things will get faster).
I just talked to Jeremy last night, the new hardware was delayed, but is expected Monday. :yay:
