Frequently Asked Questions - myPaymentPal
What is it?
myPaymentPal is an integrated membership and subscription module for Infopop's UBB.Threads. It supports payments and subscriptions from PayPal, the worlds largest and leading network for online payments.

myPaymentPal allows you to setup paid-membership areas on your site using UBB.Threads build in user groups.

How does it work?
Registered users at your site, simply follow a link from your site, to a secure payment page at PayPal.com. The user can then make payment using their existing PayPal account, or follow the easy steps to establish a PayPal account. Once payment is made, PayPal sends confirmation to your myPaymentPal scripts, and the user's group is changed in the database, giving them access to the member-area forums. The user is then given a link from the PayPal payment confirmation page, back to your site.

How long does it take?
Users can make payments to you in just a few minutes, and then return to your site for instant access member areas.

What forms of Payment are Accepted?
Uses may fund their PayPal account (and thus pay you) via Transfer from their Bank Account, an eCheck, Visa, MasterCard, American Express or Discover. So in essence, your site accepts all Major Forms of Payment. There is also an option to receive signups via Snail Mail.

What types of Payment Options can I set up?
The possibilities are endless. You can set up a wide variety of payment and subscription options using myPaymentPal and the PayPal network.
  • One time payments for a term of 1 day - 5 years
  • Recurring billing with Trial Period (ex. $4.95 for the first month, $2.95 each month after that).

  • Subscriptions can be recurring on an ongoing basis - or stop after a set number of payments have been made.
  • Configure to reattempt billing if the payment fails
  • There is also a HTML PayPal Donations Button option, which allows you to place "donation" buttons anywhere on your site.

Can I create multiple payment levels?
Yes, you can create unlimited payment levels, options, products and groups using myPaymentPal.

How does a user stop or cancel their subscription?
A user can easily stop or cancel their subscriptions at any time through their PayPal account. Frequently Asked Questions - Search Engine Mod
What is it?
The Search Engine Optimization modification, is a set of changes to your UBB.Threads scripts and templates which make them more search engine friendly.

Why do I want it?
Typical search engine spiders, which crawl sites all over the web and index them are a vital source of traffic for your site. Due to the variables used in UBB.Threads URLs, search engine spiders will not index the actual posts in your forum. Since these posts most likely contain the best content for the relevant search terms to your site, having these pages indexed will drastically increase your traffic.

How does it work?
Search engines typically penalize and will not list URLs containing too many ? & and = signs. This modification convers those characters to slashes, thus the variables in the URL will look like directory names.

Does it Work?
We have been testing this modification since early September at ThreadsDev and we have gone from about 300 pages in google to 70,000-80,000 currently. Google bots, and other search engine spiders still visit the site daily. See This Thread for other success stories.

How can I tell if the Search Engine Spiders are Indexing My Site?
I recommend The Online User Info Modification (free) at www.ThreadsDev.com - which allows you to see the search engine spiders as they index your site.

Does this impact server load?
There is a slight increase in server load as the search engines spider your site. However the major search engines pace themselves, slowly indexing your site, a little at a time, little by little each day. You will eventually have an increase in actual traffic, as the new indexed pages show up in search engines.

How long does it take to work?
The time varies based on a number of factors. Typically it can take several weeks after your site is indexed for it to actually begin to show up in the search engine's database. Big engines like google place more priority to your site, the more links you have TO your site, from other sites. Basically this mod allows the search engines to index the posts - but the time it takes them to do so may vary.

Is it easy to Install?
Included is a set of simple instructions, in which you'll find various lines of code in the scripts and templates and replace with other text. You can use any text editor and use copy/paste/find functions. Purchase price also includes free initial installation of the Search Engine Optimization mod.

Will it work on my server?
Unfortunately, there are a few server setups which will not allow this to work. Before you buy, try the Test Script to see if the method works on your server. If you're unsure, contact us and we'll check your server for you.

How Much Does it Cost?
See our Pricing Page for pricing information.

Is this supported by Infopop?
No, this is a modification to your UBB.Threads Scripts. Modify at your own peril. You should make backup copies of all scripts and templates you will modify. Should you need "official" support from Infopop, you'll need to restore clean, unmodified files.

Who Created this? Who Supports This?
This modification was created by JoshuaPettit (JoshPet) of JoshuaPettit.com and ThreadsDev.com. Josh will support the modification through the member forum here.
